With the recent tropical conditions we’ve been enjoying, a pair of shorts will have been the go-to option for dapper chaps wanting to retain their cool in the heat wave. But for Mark Johnson this is the default, indeed the only, choice, something that prompted his daughter Holly to nominate him for the T.M.Lewin Makeover your Man Competition run in the SS13 edition of VQ Magazine.

“He’s never out of shorts,” said a slightly exasperated Holly. “Whether there’s 8 inches of snow or 80 degrees of heat, he’s always in shorts! I’m getting married in December, and he’s working overtime to help pay for the wedding. I’d love him to give me away in something gorgeous – without showing his knees!”

And so it was that Mr Johnson and his family, along with over 100 other nominees and their guests, attended the winner’s event at VQ’s T.M.Lewin store on Tuesday 23rd July. The 200 competition entries had been narrowed down to a shortlist of five by a panel of judges from T.M.Lewin, Victoria Quarter and the other stores involved in the competition Kiehl’s, Charbonnel et Walker, Westrow Hair - Official Page and Official Nicholas Deakins; and with a serendipity that sometimes accompanies events such as these, Mr Johnson was selected as the winner.

Mr Johnson won a suit, shirt and tie of his choice from T.M.Lewin, shoes of his choice from Nicholas Deakins, a full hair overhaul with one of Westrow Hair’s award-winning stylists, a facial and luxury grooming hamper from Kiehl's and a luxury chocolate hamper from Charbonnel et Walker along with Afternoon Tea for Two at Harvey Nichols.

The runners up were Gerard Dowries and Mark Scott who each won a luxury goodie bag.

After the draw, Mr Johnson said, “I was surprised when Holly told me she had entered me for the competition, and I certainly never expected to win! It’s fantastic. Holly’s planning a black & white theme for her wedding, so I’m sure she’ll be coming along to help me make the right choices!”

Paul Baxby, Manager of the VQ T.M.Lewin store commented, “We had a great response to the competition and an excellent attendance on the night. Mr Johnson was a worthy winner and I’m looking forward to seeing him in the store soon to select his suit, shirt & tie.”
