BT ArtBox comes to VQ

BT ArtBox comes to VQ

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of ChildLine, and to coincide with the diverse and exciting cultural projects being held across the UK in the run up to London 2012, BT launched the BT ArtBox project - a vast, open-air art exhibition taking over London’s streets last summer.

Taking inspiration from the Gilbert Scott-designed original K6 kiosk, BT engaged more than 80 leading talents to re-style that much-loved icon of British design, the red telephone box, in their own creative way. Each BT ArtBox artist has transformed a full-size, fibre-glass replica of the original telephone kiosk introduced in 1936 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V.
The creative talents involved included Sir Peter Blake with Swarovski, Lily Cole, architect Zaha Hadid, fashion designers Giles Deacon, Zandra Rhodes, Philip Treacy and Julien Macdonald, artists Rob and Nick Carter, Ryan Callanan, Martyn Ware, sculptor David Mach RA and interior designer Nina Campbell, amongst numerous other artistic talents from the UK and beyond.
Selected BT ArtBoxes were auctioned off at a VIP Gala Auction hosted by Sotheby’s at the National Portrait Gallery in July 2012, and all other BT ArtBoxes were then available to buy online via an e-bay auction open to the general public.
