Sophie’s Choice at Hawes & Curtis
The VQ’s Hawes & Curtis
are proud to support local design talent and a sumptuous, satin style came out
top in this year’s shirt design competition.
Six
third year fashion students from Leeds College of Art and Design were
shortlisted as finalists in a design competition set by formal shirt brand
Hawes & Curtis. Given the
opportunity to design a men’s or ladies shirt that would sit alongside the
Hawes & Curtis premium fashion range, their samples were displayed in the
store window – giving the chance for customers to vote for the winner through
secret in store ballot cards!
The
shirt design with the greatest number of customer votes was created by Sophie
Gray, her bold cream satin ladies shirt with black satin detail will now go on
to be sold in H&C stores and online. The winning design has menswear dress
shirt details with a twist of bold feminine touches. Ideal to take you from day
to evening!
“I
feel so honoured to have won the Hawes & Curtis shirt competition”, enthuses a delighted Sophie. “It has created a
fantastic opportunity for me to work within a prestigious company, and it’s
also allowed me to leave my fashion degree, not only as a graduating student,
but more importantly a designer!!!!”
In
the end the competition votes were so high that Hawes & Curtis also awarded
a “runner up” prize. Jennifer Harding with her longer length, lace trimmed,
satin shirt won many votes from customers loving the new look of her elongated
design.
“We’re
keen to support up and coming talent and to give fashion students a commercial
edge in a very competitive industry”, explained Hawes & Curtis Area
Manager and judge, Sarah Meese. “The standard this year has been extremely
high and it was difficult choosing the finalists. Involving our customers in
the winning decision was fantastic!”
This
year’s winning designs will be available to purchase from Autumn 2012 at………….
